Yokan Resource Center, which is known for its uniqueness, is a brick building built in 1941 which was refurbished as a resource center in 1984. It is situated beside the Japanese confectionary store, Muraoka Sohonpo. The building's exotic and dignified appearance has not faded with time. It was registered as a Tangible Cultural Property of Japan in 1997. The first floor of the resource center is a rest area and the second floor is an exhibition room. The exhibition room features tools used for manufacturing yokan, ingredients, material relating to manufacturing processes and history, labels of rare foreign-made yokan and a video introducing yokan. Many people visit Yokan Resource Center, including fans of wagashi (Japanese sweets), travelers and elementary school children on field trips. The building was built as a storehouse for sugar, which was a precious commodity at the time, and its structure was designed to prevent fire and humidity, making it perfect to use today as a resource center.
