Ushino'o Plum Grove

Ushino'o Plum Grove

Ushino'o Plum Grove Ushino Plum Grove is a grove of approximately 10,000 plum trees growing in the vicinity of Ushino Shrine, which is located about halfway up Ushino Mountain's southwest side, to the south of Ogi town, Ogi city. This area has been famous for plums since long ago. The best time of the year for visiting is from late February until early March, when the entire face of the mountain is covered in plum flowers and the sweet smelling fragrance of the plums fills the air, causing the place to come alive with plum tree admirers from Saga and beyond. Moreover, from the top of the mountain one can see not only the Saga plains, but even as far as Mt. Unzen. Ushino Shrine is an old one constructed in 796. It is said that Minamoto no Yoshitsune and Benkei offered koshibata, while Minamoto no Yoritomo donated territory to the shrine.
