Golden tea room Experience program (Saga Prefectural Nagoya Castle Museum)

One of a kind. Your only opportunity to experience a Golden Tea Room!

The Golden Tea Room, built in the 16th century by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the most prominent samurai of ancient Japan, was used for tea ceremonies with diplomatic envoys and others at Nagoya Castle.
It has recently been restored, and we are now offering a special opportunity for you to experience this historic tea room decoration in gold.

Participants will be able to experience the traditional tea ceremony in a very special place.

First, tea sweets will be served, and then matcha (powdered green tea), prepared by a tea ceremony expert in a separate room, will be brought into the room.
Matcha bowls, including some from Karatsu-ware from Saga Prefecture, known throughout the world as one of Japan's leading pottery production centers, and other types of tea bowls are used.
This is an opportunity to enjoy the authentic tea ceremony.
After sipping matcha, a museum curator will explain the history and significance of the Golden Tea Room.
Can you imagine how people in the days before electric lights viewed the faintly lit Gold Tea Room?
In this space of gold with its various expressions, you may make a new discovery about the depth of Japanese culture.
We hope you will enjoy traveling back in time in the Golden Tea Room.
