Grown in the Ariake Sea, Saga Nori (seaweed) is the best in Japan for quality and quantity. There are two secrets to its delicious taste. The first is that Ariake Sea is a tidal flat rich in nutrients. This is because the rivers which flow into the bay carry soil which is packed full of nutrients. The drift of the tide also aids nori growth. Freshwater and seawater are blended to the ideal balance by the drift of the tide to miraculously create just the right salt concentration for growing nori. Moreover, due to a 6 m difference between high tide and low tide, the seaweed is exposed to sufficient sunlight every day, giving it its unique aroma and sweetness.
The second reason for Saga Nori's delicious flavor is the effort by the seaweed growers who practice this custom to the fullest. With their independently-developed group management method, the growers thoroughly manage nori cultivation. They hold classes to teach about the conditions of the sea, the climate and so on, producing premium nori through strong liaison between the respective work processes. In other words, Saga Nori is a Saga masterpiece created by people and nature working together.
