Rhododendron in Jotokuji Temple

Rhododendron in Jotokuji Temple

Rhododendron in Jotokuji Temple Jotoku Temple is also known as Shakunage (Rhododendron) Temple. It is located in the Tanaka district on Mount Sefuri Park prefectural road. On the mountain behind the temple is a rhododendron tree handpicked and grown by the temple master himself. Legend claims that the god of Sefuri Shrine borrowed this rhododendron from Mount Hiko. There are conflicting estimates that the tree is 350 or 500 years old. When the bush blooms it is buried in a blanket of pink flowers and many people visit the temple to gaze upon its beauty.
