One place of interest near the Izumiyama porcelain quarry, where a group of Korean potters, led by Yi Sam-pyeong, dug for porcelain stone 400 years earlier, is the Giant Ginkgo Tree of Benzaiten Shrine, which sits on the opposite side of the quarry. If you look up at this giant tree from directly below it, its circumference of 9 meters and height of 30 meters will simply overwhelm you with its sheer scale. This tree has been designated as one of Japan's natural monuments and is still growing strong. The beauty of this tree when its leaves turn golden in autumn is something special indeed. The "Autumn Arita Porcelain Market" is an event held at the end of November when the Giant Ginkgo Tree's leaves are most golden. Incidentally, ginkgo is Arita town's official town tree.
