Yobuko town in Karatsu city, blessed with a good natural port, once flourished as a base for whaling. These days it is visited by many sightseers all year around, who come seeking fresh seafood by trying fresh squid sashimi or visiting Yobuko Morning Market. Yobuko Ohashi bridge, which was newly chosen in 1998 as one of Japan's top 100 scenic places, can be said to be the symbol of Yobuko. This beautiful bridge which looks as though it has been lined with harps is around 728 meters in length. While crossing this gently curving bridge, you will be able to gaze upon it in its entirety. Kabeshima Island, which is across the bridge, has plenty to see including "Kaze-no-Mieruoka Park", Tashima Shrine, which is shrouded in the legend of Princess Sayo Matsura, and an array of gourmet spots. The beautiful silhouette of Yobuko Ohashi as the sun sets over the ocean is bound to touch the heart of travelers.
