Tategamiiwa Rocks

Tategamiiwa Rocks

Tategamiiwa Rocks A coast lined with several giant rocks pointing straight up to the heavens. Of these, Tategami Rock is the most striking, consisting of two giant basalt rocks which are six meters in circumference and 30 meters tall. While the footing is poor, it is possible to climb Tategami Rock. The rock is also known as "Husband and Wife Rock" because the two pillars stand together undefeated by the rough waves. Moreover, the bay to the west of Tategami Rock is wide and gentle, making it popular as the birthplace of surfing in Kyushu. The spot is visited all year round by surfers who wish to challenge their skills on the rough waves of Genkai Sea.
